Back in April, the IKEA FRAKTA-like ridiculously expensive tote bag by Balenciaga was a controversial fashion item that has been ridiculed and parodied ever since.

Now, the very big, blue bag is making a comeback… in a good way as Off-White founder and designer Virgil Abloh recently come up his own version of IKEA FRAKTA bag. But instead of the familiar blue bag that we have grown accustomed to, Abloh‘s version is reimagined and redesigned into a brown tote bag using cardboard with tapes visible on the upper seams. The bag also comes with either bright yellow or blue straps and bold black/white letters in the middle that read “SCULPTURE“.

IKEA provides a landscape — fertile soil for new ideas and concepts,” said Abloh regarding the opportunity of redesigning the iconic IKEA FRAKTA bag for the Swedish furniture company’s prototype shop in Älmhult.

He also further quoted: “We’re in a moment where IKEA is transcending, and people are bringing this ‘do it yourself’ culture to the blue bag. What I’m most interested in is doing that process in partnership with the brand. It’s allowing me to put my opinion on a classic. It’s unique, and distinctly as much of off-white as it’s IKEA.”
