German luggage manufacturer RIMOWA, founded in 1898 by Paul Morszeck, first made history when the company revolutionised the world of travel by introducing a lightweight luggage made of aluminium in 1937. Since then, the aluminium case became the brand’s most distinguished product that stood the test of time until today.
To honour the 80th anniversary of its most iconic design, RIMOWA has invited close friends of the brand to showcase their own versions of aluminium luggage. Among them is legendary fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, award-winning director David Fincher, editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld, artist Anne Imhof, Off-White founder and creative director Virgil Abloh, entrepreneur Martha Stewart, iconic chef Massimo Bottura, curator Hans Ulrich Obrist, architect Annabelle Selldorf, as well as DJ and designer Nigo and design collective AMBUSH. Each luggage is taken by German photographer Frank Hülsbömer where the photos will be presented via RIMOWA‘s social media platforms and website along with respective quotes from the luggage’s owners to offer their perspectives on how travel has given them character and helped shape their identity.
