Raf Simons has recently unveiled his latest Spring/Summer 2018 menswear fashion show at New York’s Chinatown, with a neon-lit setting alongside added rain and a smoke machine that pays tribute to the visual aesthetic of Ridley Scott‘s Blade Runner. In addition to that, vintage Joy Division and New Order album covers are creatively utilised as part of the set design as well as some of the graphic T-shirts and split-open sweatshirts.
The show made good use of the concrete alleyway as a makeshift catwalk for the male models to parade the Belgian designer’s latest apparel, which consists of rain jackets with various English plaids as well as matching hats and rain boots. The models can also be seen holding a see-through umbrella to complete the look.
“There were a lot of things that go back to my early days — why we started doing the things we did,” said Simons. “There were strong music references from the past [juxtaposed] and taken out of context. It was about movies, Blade Runner, it’s about cultures sliding together, Asian culture, cultures of the West. There was more of a new wave punk attitude.”
