Nike has joined forces with Off-White founder and creative director Virgil Abloh to revamp some of the American sportswear giant’s existing sneaker models. This includes the classic Air Jordan 1, Air Max 90, Air Max 97, Air Force 1, Blazer and Hyperdunk. The remaining four are newer models including the AirVaporMax, Air Presto, Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars and Zoom VaporFly.
“It’s potential career suicide to touch ten things that are iconic,” said Abloh to BoF.
The high-profile collaboration, dubbed as “The Ten: Icons Reconstructed by Virgil Abloh“, is expected to be pre-released its five of the ten models — the Air Jordan 1, Air Presto, Air Max, Blazer and VaporMax — at NikeLab stores during the upcoming Spring/Summer 2018 fashion weeks in New York (September 19-13), London (September 18-22), Milan (September 21-25) and Paris (September 26-30).
“I always like a challenge. The idea of “The Ten” is Nike going into its history and asking a designer such as myself to tell a story by highlighting a design detail and innovation within [each of the] models,” added Abloh. “What’s interesting is the scope of the project. It’s a hallmark, a very important idea of post-modern culture, innovation and athletic performance all intertwined into one.”
The full collection will be available worldwide in November.
