Alessandro Sartori, artistic director of the Ermenegildo Zegna group, is working on a new fabric that blends traditional craftsmanship with nanotechnology.

The new fabric, which is made from a crease-resistant wood fiber, will be felting proof as well. This, in turn, allows the fabric to be “machine washable while retaining the wool’s natural hygroscopic features”.

“The new fabric is set to employed for a lineup of pieces including jogging pants and cycling shirts,” said Sartori during his appearance at La Triennale museum in Milan yesterday, as part of the first reunion organised by the private Italian school of fashion and design, Istituto Marangoni for ex-students.
