The last time I used Cool Dad to describe an inanimate object, it was on Orlebar Brown – that’s right, I even got myself a pair right before recommending you to get it as Christmas gift – and since then, the said adjective has never seen the light of day until recently when I was going through my unread emails, and found out this lookbook sent by the amazing bunch at Atalaye.
Well before you conclude that Atalaye has something to do Phil Dunphy, here are two situations when the use of “Cool Dad” as adjective become legit: A) when something looks old-school retro yet modern chic, and B) you know you would still buy this shit 20 years later when you’re most probably already a dad. #ShitsCoolDadWears
In the case of swimwear newcomer Atalaye, I can see the same kind of premium-class halo hovering on the brand, and the same kind of classy design rival that of Orlebar Brown. But of course, Brown’s flagship Bulldog has positioned the brand in a league of its own. What I see Atalaye offering is a more “beachy” and lightweight construction than Brown, and the special designs created under collaboration with French artists. And, what do you know, Atalaye is a French label! (Inner francophile’s creeping in.)
Judging from the catalogue we received, the shorts look amazing – BUT, nothing beats tactioception and the actual experience of putting on one, so let’s just wait until we get our hands on one. (While we’re at that, I say my navy Bulldog aced.)
Check out the look book below. This is also their debut collection, and it’s not currently available on their website yet.
UPDATE: The collection will be available on their website starting 15 May.
