Firstly, what an honour to receive invitation extended by Max to attend STYLO, muchas gracias! I attended Day 1 and Day 5 of the fashion week on behalf, and this post was finally done after a busy and tiring April.
Day 1: A Stylish Slumber featuring Men…& More Men
Venue: Poppy Garden
Once I landed my right foot into the fusion night at Poppy Garden, I could see two storey-full of fashionistas. To align with the dress code set for the event – “Sleepwear, Party Wear and Underwear”, guys were wearing pyjamas while the females are cladded in lavish laces lingerie, making all the guests blushed. I put on my Noragi robe and shorts, just without slippers.
Joe Chia – Extending the theme of avant-garde, the new Joe Chia Spring/Summer 2014 Collection, namely the “O2“, continues his signature monochromatic and futuristic look. Heavy layering, sprinkled the feast with gentry hat, random stripes sweater, ninja mask and soccer socks accompanied with black reeboks.
Kinslager – KL-based German fashion designer Kinslager manifested the outdoor golf session in the latest collection. The collection brought us back to the 1920’s with vintage garments, modernised with added sweetness through the use of floral patterns and intriguing fabrics.
Tom Abang Saufi – In the middle of the show, Dato Tom Abang Saufi brought us back to her tropical nostalgia. Summer breeze flows in between the linen and batik fabricated with ethic Borneo Pua Prints. The collection continues to showcase Tom Abang Saufi’s classic and signature tailoring without zip and buttons.
Quarter Homme – Local underwear brand Quarter Homme intended to turn the venue into “feather” snowland. They showcased their latest male underwear and swimwear collection, and then feeding the female guests later with seductive pillow fight of hot male models.
Day 5 – WHO IS GATSBY?…A VINTAGE PARTY
Venue: Hap Seng Star , Jalan Sultan Ismail
The fifth day event was held at Menara Hap Seng, teleporting the crowd with time machine all the way back to 1920’s. Homburg, top hat, newsboy’s hat and graceful bedazzled flappers transformed the sales gallery into a glamorous vintage ballroom.
Fairuz Ramdan – Party began with the unforgettable showcase by the undaunted local designer Fairuz Ramdan, opening with two comedians, accompanied with clown wearing eerie makeup, chaining three little slaves with horror face. The Malaysia renowned guitarist, Man Kidal, backed the show with his exquisite talent yet superlative techniques.
The theme of the runway transformed from horror to bondage. One of the suits innovated from common bomber jacket into hollow checkered outerwear.
Bon Zainal – Malaysian menswear maestro Bon Zainal was awarded the “Best Designer” for his well-known classic pieces and magnificent tailored suits. The new ready-to-wear collection incorporated velvet, suede and other fabrics to create the classic texture.
Besides the menswear designers, there were more runway shows by Zang Toi, Jovian Rayke Mandegia and Iliza. Check out the slideshow for those who missed out the fabulous night!
