There’s a song which has been randomly repeating in the air of my home office recently. I finally found out the song’s name and the artist behind the vocal a few days ago – it’s Let’s Get Lost by Chet Baker. To my surprise, Baker isn’t just the vocal but also the trumpeter in the entire song. I became a new fan not long after learning about him.
Chet Baker, a.k.a. Chesney Henry Baker, Jr. is a legendary jazz artist specialised in trumpeter, flugelhornist and jazz vocal. Born in 1929, Baker would be 85 this year if he didn’t die in his hotel room in 1988 (it’s said due to “accident” after taking drug). Baker started taking drugs at 21, and his life has been turbulent since then (remember Amy Winehouse? Why oh why…). It was only until last 70s to 80s that Baker’s musical career bloomed. His jazz works are categorised into West Coast Jazz. and if you love Jazz, trumpet, and especially like Jazz quartet, you should definitely must check out Chet Baker. Here’s a few videos and his link on Spotify.
