Top 10 Super Strong Hold Water-Based Pomades

We’ve reviewed 2 pomades (Layrite and Suavecito) and done a couple of hair tutorials so far. You probably have already met my really thick and “porcupinish” hair by now.

In the quest to tame my stubborn hair, I’ve developed a very strong preference towards hair styling products with super strong holding power somehow.

Given my oily scalp and acne-prone skin, I always prefer water-based products over oil-based products. (Well, you actually can’t find any oil-based products in my cabinet.) And there’s no exception when it comes to pomade, one of my hair styling staples. (Seriously, I can’t do a classic slicked back without them.)

We’ve been hearing a lot about many different brands of pomades from many different pomade connoisseurs lately – whether it’s an old brand venturing into water-based offerings or a newcomer we’ve never heard of. But what matters the most to me is still the holding power and water-based ingredient.

I’ve narrowed down the brands to 10 that provide the strongest holding power based on their popularity in the community. If you’re looking for a really strong pomade to slay your porcupine, here are 10 recommendations to try:

  • Kharti

I’m not sure about Layrite, though it smells real Sweet. It seemed like Shinier Gold have me a better hold. But I can’t tell for sure as my hair was shorter then..

  • LA Pomp

I wasnt impressed by Imperial. It left many hair feeling oily and halfway thru the day it starting separating down the middle. Same separating with Slick Devil. I was very happy with Uppercut Deluxe. All day hold. I have fine, fly away hair with an Oldschool pompadour. Also like water based Murray’s Edgewater. Really have to soften it up in your palms but the hold lasts for a couple days honestly.

    • I see. Have to give Murray’s Edgewater a try!
