Pierre Bergé, who has a history of long illness, recently died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. He was 86.
The French businessman was best known for helping his longtime business partner Yves Saint Laurent for building the legendary luxury fashion house together in 1961. Back then, he was credited alongside Yves Saint Laurent for revolutionising the fashion industry with his bold design. Their partnership lasted for decades, in which Bergé was also romantically involved with Saint Laurent. In 1976, he was separated from Saint Laurent but still remained business partners and best friends.
Bergé was subsequently remarried and now, succeeded by his widowed landscape designer Madison Cox.
