Paul Smith has join forces with iconic American alternative rock band, R.E.M. to release a capsule collection that marks the 25th anniversary of the band’s 1992 signature album, “Automatic for the People“. The band is best known for some of their hit singles including “Losing My Religion“, “Shiny Happy People” and “Everybody Hurts“.
“I’ve known and been a fan of R.E.M. for a long time,” said the British designer. “I’ve always particularly enjoyed Michael [Stipe‘s] haunting vocals. The band is a very imaginative and artistic group of people, which makes them such exciting creative collaborators.”
The Paul Smith x R.E.M. capsule range will include graphic T-shirts, silk pocket squares, canvas tote bags and woven scarves. Smith made use of the band’s “Automatic for the People” album artwork, as well as song lyrics and promotional images taken by the Dutch photographer Anton Corbijn.
“We’re thrilled to work with Paul Smith, Anton Corbijn‘s photos, and my lyrics from “Automatic for the People” to create something very 2017,” said Michael Stipe, the lead singer of R.E.M.
The capsule range will be available on November 10 in Paul Smith stores including London, New York, Paris and online at paulsmith.com
