Paul Andrew is set to collaborate with actor and singer Ansel Elgort for an upcoming sneaker collection at Paris Men’s Fashion Week at the end of June. The news was first announced by the British shoe designer himself during his Jo Malone x Paul Andrew dinner in New York City on Wednesday.
Andrew and Elgort have wanted to work together on a sneaker collaboration ever since they met at last year’s Footwear News Achievement Awards, in which The Divergent Series actor presented him with the Designer of the Year award.
“We met at some sort of CFDA event, and then he asked me to do some sort of sneaker wear awards [the Footwear News Achievement Awards]”, said Elgort.
Earlier this year during his men’s fall 2017 show, Andrew has spoken about the rising potential of sneakers in the men’s category, in which he quoted: “Sneakers are clearly a driving force in the men’s market at the moment. I do feel that there will be a return to more of a more formal silhouette, so I really want to establish myself in that market.”
Paul Andrew, who is currently the women’s footwear design director for Salvatore Ferragamo, also launched his eponymous brand in 2013 and became the first shoe designer to receive the prestigious 2014 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund.
