To coincide with this year’s Air Max Day, Nike has joined forces with Taiwanese architect and engineer Arthur Huang to create a lightweight Air Max shoebox out of recycled materials such as drink containers and coffee lids.

The shoebox, which also boasts an interlocking feature for stacking or display purpose, is produced using chemical-free plastics. It also comes with extra holes, which allow users to thread a rope through and re-use the shoebox either as a backpack or a carry bag.

Here is what Huang has to say about his shoebox design:

“What we do here is very simple, we try to use the stuff we throw away and turn that into the most sustainable way with the least carbon footprint to create a new product. It’s all about turning pollution into a solution for the future.”
