Following Isabelle Guichot’s nine-year tenure as the CEO of Balenciaga, the French luxury fashion house has appointed 39-year-old Cédric Charbit to take over the position. Guichot will assume new responsibilities within Kering, the Paris-based parent company which also owned Balenciaga.

Prior to the announcement of his new CEO role for Balenciaga, Charbit, who graduated from ESC Toulouse business school, began his career as a buyer within the luxury department of Printemps in 2001. He held various positions, including his appointed role as sales associate director. In 2009, he joined Pucci in Italy where he was appointed as associate purchase director. Then in 2012, he moved to Yves Saint Laurent and held different positions including product strategy director and merchandising director. He made executive vice-president of product and marketing since May 2016. His role at Balenciaga will be primarily focused on accelerating the brand’s reputation as well as its growth on an international scale.

Balenciaga was founded by Spanish-born Cristobal Balenciaga in 1919 and established in Paris in 1936. In 2001, Kering acquired Balenciaga. Later in 2015, Georgian fashion designer Demna Gvasalia replaced Alexander Wang as the brand’s new creative director. Wang has previously served the role for three years.
