Customising a pair of sneaker is nothing new, but Asics alongside Taiwan’s Tayin Research & Development Co., Ltd takes the customisation process to a whole new level by using… microwaves. The microwave process is still in the testing stage as it reportedly able to produce custom-coloured soles blending different materials for as little as 15 seconds.
“The introduction of this production technique could offer future footwear fans an innovative fashion fix in the form of customising their shoes before their very eyes,” said Paul Miles, Senior General Manager of Global Marketing Division for Asics Corporation.
According to the company, the microwave process enables customers to choose various colours for the shoe soles that includes the midsole and upper. Such move will also help Asics to minimise the energy use by 90% compared to traditional production processes. Check out the video below.
