Once upon a time, Airwalk is one of the most sought-after skate shoe brands during the late 1980s and early 1990s. It has even sponsored the likes of well-known professional skaters such as Jason Lee and Tony Hawk. But after the skateboarding sport begins to die down in the 90s, the Airwalk brand is no longer as culturally relevant as it used to be.

Fast-forward to 2017, Airwalk is making a long-overdue comeback as the skate heritage brand recently relaunched the men’s and women’s Classics collection at Colette in Paris. Designed by the chief creative consultant for Airwalk Classics, Jeff Staple, the shoes will include the Random, the Pearl and the Bloc silhouettes.

“Streetwear is having a resurgence right now, and I would love to bring a bit of the early Nineties feel back to the brand”, said Staple. “This time we essentially created a new brand in Airwalk Classics. And as the name sounds, we are staying to the heritage of the 30-year-old brand.”

The new Airwalk Classics collection is retailed for around US$100 (RM443).
